L’Amicale de Misère

Juliette Brishoual and Mariel (NTF) got together to draw and explore Brussels’ brownfield sites. From these moments, a first typeface has emerged. A ‘Misère’ typeface was released under the Amicale licence, on the principle that purchasing this item grants access to subsequent versions of the typeface. The herbal teas and cyanotypes featured in this font were made from bramble and yarrow leaves gathered in the Wiels marsh. An impromptu marsh, which appeared in the lower part of Forest (Brussels) in the former bed of the River Senne whilst foundations were being laid for a property development, on land formerly occupied by the Wielemans-Ceuppens breweries. Resulting from the abandonment of a building site in 2007, the site has gradually transformed into a rich natural ecosystem. It is actively protected by its local residents, les fées du Marais.
